The monsoons are a great time to go trekking in Maharashtra. The state has some of the best trekking trails in the country, and they are even more beautiful during the rains. One of the best monsoon treks in Maharashtra is the Kothaligad Monsoon Trek. It is situated at Bhimasankar wildlife santuary in karjat at an altitude of 3100 feet above sea level. The Kothaligad trek is famous for Kothaligad fort, also called the Peth fort because village Peth is located at the base of this fort. The defense fort of Kothaligad was used to store ammunition.
The Kothaligad Monsoon Trek is a moderate to difficult level trek that takes you through some of the most picturesque landscapes in the state. The trail starts from the base village of Ambewadi and passes through dense forests, waterfalls, and streams. It then climbs up to the top of Kothaligad, where you can get stunning views of the surrounding area.
The focal attractions of the Kothaligad trek route include the two caves, the first of a Goddess and the other Bhairoba cave with sculpted pillars. The view of windmills and sunrise from the pinnacle of the peak are other prime attractions. Another highlight of the trek is the presence of beautiful fireflies along the trail in the pre-monsoon season. Kothaligad fort is around 100 km from Mumbai and 127 km from Pune. Both the routes are well connected by road and railways.
The unique thumb like structure of the fort, well safeguarded cannons, stunning panoramic view of surrounding, carved pillars in the fort temple, presence of waterfalls, reverse waterfalls sometime due to heavy winds are the major attractions of Kothaligad trek.
Kothaligad trek is 100km from Mumbai which will take 2.5 to 3 hour drive and 127 km from Pune which will take around 4 hour drive. Both ways well connected via road and trains making the travel easier.

Kothaligad monsoon trek is having medium difficulty and it will take 2.5 to 3 hour to reach the top. We will be taking adequate breaks between the hike.

The Kothaligad monsoon trek starts at 5.30 am from SGNP Borivali where you can meet the Liveb4youdie team. By 5.45 am we will settle down at our private vehicle and start our journey towards the base village. we have other pick up points on the way as mentioned below
We are expected to reach the base village by 9.30 am. Let us freshen up and have some healthy breakfast. Around 10.30 am after a short introduction about the trek we will start our hike towards the Peth fort. we will be reaching the fort around 1 pm and let us take some pics and witness the beauty of Kothaligad from an altitude of 3100 feet above sea level.
By 1.30 pm we will start moving back to the base village and we are expected to reach the village by 4 pm. let us freshen up and have some hme-made local Maharashtrian food. By 5pm we ill start our journwy back in private vehicle and expected to reach Mumbai by 8pm. Time to say good byes to all.
