The Hampta Pass Trek is graded as moderate in difficulty. While most days involve gradual and scenic walking through valleys and meadows, the pass-crossing day is longer and more physically demanding. With basic fitness, proper acclimatization, and preparation, even beginners can comfortably complete the trek and enjoy the experience.
The Hampta Pass Trek is famous for its dramatic crossover from the lush green valleys of Kullu Valley to the stark, barren landscapes of Lahaul Valley. It offers a rare and stunning combination of dense forests, alpine meadows, snow patches, and high-altitude mountain passes—all within a short and rewarding duration, making it one of the most diverse treks in the Himalayas.
The best time to do the Hampta Pass Trek is from June to September. Early in the season, trekkers can experience snow patches near the pass, adding a thrilling touch to the journey. As the season progresses, the trails transform into lush green meadows, especially on the Kullu Valley side. Interestingly, the Lahaul Valley remains relatively dry even during the monsoon, offering clear and contrasting landscapes throughout the trek.
